What actually differs between the factions?
Elyos are the "light" side (white wings, bright lands), Asmodians the "shadow" side (dark wings, a harsher world). In the original Aion, Asmodians had claws and a different body. Aion 2 dropped that.

In short: you're choosing a story and a vibe, not character power.
How do factions work on the servers?
- One server = one faction. At first launch you choose region, then faction, then server (NC, Oct 4).
- Every Elyos server is paired with an Asmodian server. That's who you fight in PvP: in the Abyss (the shared faction-war zone) and through Spacetime Rifts (portals into enemy territory). NC reshuffles pairs from time to time to balance them (NC, Game8).
- You won't meet the other faction in the open world while leveling (games.gg, Anders).
Can I run dungeons with the other faction?
Most likely yes. Korea added cross-faction parties for Expedition, Transcendence and Sanctuary dungeons on 2026-03-11 (aion2hub, KR patch). Game8 (Oct 3), Mein-MMO (Oct 6) and timesaver.gg say the same for Global, and Anders says faction doesn't matter in PvE. NC's own notice only says dungeons are "cross-server", and some VPN-company guides claim parties are faction-locked — we'll verify in game and update this if needed.
Which faction is more popular?
There's no official population data (games.gg, timesaver.gg). Big English-speaking creators gathered on the Siel / Israphel pair (Mein-MMO). More players means easier groups — and longer queues. NC rebalances server pairs by strength, so a smaller faction isn't stuck losing forever.
Can I switch faction or play both?
- No faction change — you'd need a new character (Game8, timesaver.gg).
- Server transfers (from Oct 14, free at first) only move you between servers of the same faction (NC, Sep 30) — details: server transfer.
- You can have characters on both factions on different servers — e.g. an alt to see the other story (Game8, games.gg).
Decide in 30 seconds
- Friends already playing → their faction, their server. Done.
- Want the busiest side → the streamer pair Siel (Elyos) / Israphel (Asmodian), or check which server to pick.
- Playing alone → pick the vibe: bright forests and cities (Elyos) or a darker, harsher world (Asmodians). Anders' video shows the cities and zones of both sides — a few minutes is enough to feel the difference.
