Who is this for?
Ping is the round-trip time between your PC and the game server, in milliseconds (ms). The higher it is, the later the game registers your skill press. NC hasn't said which cities host the regional servers (LagoFast, Oct 5), so there's no single number for your country.
This matters if you:
- play with friends on another continent's servers (e.g. you're in Europe and they're on NA, or you're in Oceania on Japan or NA West — there are no OCE servers);
- play over mobile internet or weak Wi-Fi;
- can feel your skills firing noticeably late in combat.
In player threads "high ping" usually means 120–200 ms and up. Up to roughly 50–80 ms most classes play fine (Divium Furor).
Why does ping cost damage in Aion 2?
Most classes deal damage through a chain of fast skills pressed back to back. Each waits for the server to confirm, so with high ping you fit fewer hits into the same time. Classes that charge big spells or have something else hitting for them (spirits) lose the least.
How much — sources disagree, and KR/TW got a netcode fix in summer 2026:
- Before the fix: a Ranger fired 208 Tempest Shots in a minute at 170 ms vs 322 at 48 ms — about 35% fewer (J0EI TV, Mar 2026). Americans on KR/TW reported losing 40–50% DPS at 170–200 ms (r/Aion2, May 2026).
- After the fix: about 15–20% loss at ~200 ms (r/Aion2, Aug 2026); a Gladiator test showed −21% at 150 ms vs 10 ms (r/Aion2, Sep 2026 — the post was removed by mods; we only know it from a reply in another thread). Some players claim 5%, others push back hard.
Bottom line: at 150–200 ms expect to lose somewhere in the low-to-mid teens percent of your damage, more on "spammy" classes.
Class ranking for high ping
| Class | Divium Furor (Aug 16) | Society of Gaming (Aug 6) | r/Aion2 players | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cleric | fine under 100 ms | S | fine as a healer; DPS Cleric needs low ping | best, if you heal |
| Elementalist | spirits don't care about ping | B | "most forgiving" (several players) | very good |
| Chanter | best around 50 ms | S | "Chanter and SM" | good — buffs work regardless of ping |
| Sorcerer | fine under 100 ms (charged spells) | B | split: "one of the least affected" vs "don't pick Sorc on high ping" (KR, 2025) | disputed — test it yourself |
| Templar | 50–80 ms | A | pre-fix: "worst damage on high ping" | survives, but damage drops |
| Ranger | 50–70 ms | B | ~10% loss at 150 ms (post-fix) | middling — lots of fast shots |
| Gladiator | needs 0–50 ms | A | −21% at 150 ms | tanky, but loses a lot of damage |
| Assassin | needs < 50 ms | D (worst) | avoid fast melee rotations | worst — every source agrees |
Why does Society of Gaming rate Templar and Gladiator higher than Divium? It also counts survivability: a tank with high ping survives a late dodge more often. Divium mostly looks at damage. Both are fair — it depends what you care about more.
u4n (Oct 6) ranks things similarly (1. Elementalist, 2. Cleric, 3. tanks, 4. Ranger; avoid Assassin and Sorcerer), but it's a game-currency seller, so we only count it as an extra voice.
What you can do about ping
- Play in the region closest to you. You pick the region at first login, before faction and server. More: which server to pick.
- Raise your macro delay. A macro is a list of skills on one key; its settings have a delay between steps. Guides suggest 10 ms, but at 80+ ms ping use 40–50 ms (aLuckyRO, MMO Codex — from our Cleric research). Details: macros.
- Use a cable instead of Wi-Fi and pause background downloads — it won't shorten the distance, but it removes latency spikes.
- "Ping booster" apps (ExitLag, GearUP, NoPing and the like) reroute your traffic. They help some players and do nothing for others; r/Aion2 has reports both ways. If you try one, stick to a free trial.
High ping but want to play DPS?
Take Elementalist — the spirits do most of the work. If you really want melee, pick Templar over Gladiator or Assassin: nobody checks the tank's damage meter. The ping question in the class quiz uses these findings.
