Which Aion 2 Class Should I Play? Quiz and All 8 Classes Compared

No idea where to start? Pick Gladiator — easy, tanky and great solo. Want every group to take you? Cleric. All 8 classes are viable, so take the 7-question quiz below and get a ranked answer right away.

This page depends on the current game version. Checked on October 6, 2026; we review it every week.

Quiz: which class fits you?

Pick one answer per question. Each answer adds (or removes) points for classes — the weights come from our class guides and player feedback, and every weight has its source written down. You get a ranking with a short "fits because…" for each class.

1. How do you mostly want to play?
2. Do you prefer fighting up close or from a distance?
3. Do you want to heal or buff other players?
4. Do you want to stand in front and take hits for the group (tank)?
5. What matters more: rarely dying or hitting the hardest?
6. Do you prefer a simple or a complex rotation (skill order)?
7. Do you have high ping (over about 80 ms to the server)?

The quiz doesn't know your friends. If you play with a group, check what your party is missing first — see "What if I play with friends?" below.

All 8 classes at a glance

Global launched with 8 classes. The ninth, Brawler, is Korea-only for now. Every class is available on both factions (Elyos or Asmodian doesn't change anything here).

ClassWeaponRole
Templarsword and shieldtank (protects the group)
Gladiatorgreatswordmelee fighter who hits hard and takes a lot of punishment
Assassindaggersmelee DPS who strikes from behind
Rangerbowranged damage dealer
SorcererSpellbookranged magic damage dealer
Spiritmaster (Elementalist)orbspirit summoner, ranged damage
Clericmace and guardhealer who fights from range like a caster while leveling
Chanterstaff and guardsupport: party buffs and backup healing

Terms you'll see a lot:

  • Tank — stands in front of the boss and takes the hits for the group.
  • DPS — deals damage ("damage per second").
  • Healer / support — heals or buffs the party (buffs = temporary boosts).
  • Rotation — the order in which you press your skills.

How the classes actually differ

Where these ratings come from: the "role and character" section of each class research file — Game8 (ease and survivability on a 1–5 scale), couga54, Grobs, aLuckyRO and ExpCarry among others. Details and source disagreements are on each class page. Head-to-head comparisons: Templar vs Gladiator, Cleric vs Chanter, Sorcerer vs Elementalist, Assassin vs Ranger.

What the tier lists say (and what they leave out)

A tier list ranks classes from strongest (S) down. Two lists made for Global:

ClassGame8 PvE / PvP (Oct 5)Destructoid PvE / PvP (Sep 30)
GladiatorS / SS / S
RangerS / SS / S
SorcererS / BS / A
Spiritmaster (Elementalist)S / BS / B
AssassinA / SA / A
ClericA / AB / A
TemplarB / AA / A
ChanterB / AB / A

Three things the letters don't tell you:

  1. They mostly measure damage. Templar, Cleric and Chanter sit low, yet groups look for them — hard dungeons fail without a tank and heals.
  2. Mein-MMO (Oct 6) calls the balance good: no class wins everywhere and none is useless.
  3. Tier lists shift with every balance patch. A class you enjoy beats an S-tier class you hate playing.

Still undecided? Start here

  • You just want to play and not die → Gladiator. Game8 and Destructoid both name it the best class for beginners (Mein-MMO rates only Templar and Cleric higher). More in best class for beginners.
  • You'll mostly play alone → Gladiator or Elementalist. Comparison: best solo class.
  • You want to be needed in every group → Cleric (resurrection) or Templar (tank).
  • Bad connection or playing from far away → read best class for high ping. Assassin is the first to drop.
  • You like a challenge and dancing around bosses → Assassin.

What if I play with friends?

Plan for dungeons: a party is 5 players, and it's smoothest with one tank (Templar or Gladiator) and one healer (Cleric or Chanter). The rest are DPS. Gladiator can tank when there's no Templar, and Chanter can heal some dungeons without a Cleric — the two most flexible picks for a premade. Also pick the same faction and server, or you won't play together in the open world.

Can I change class later?

No — you make a new character. Since the Oct 5 maintenance, deleting a character takes 24 hours (it used to be 168) and works from level 1, so testing 2–3 classes in the first zone is cheap. Make a character, clear the first area, and see if the rotation clicks. What to do next: your first week.
